Matt was a Philadelphia-based Partner in the Risk Assurance (RA) practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (PwC), and during his 21 years at PwC his work crossed into many industry sectors, including Financial Services, Technology, Consumer and Industrial Products, Utilities, Higher Education, Insurance and Retail. His primary areas of technical focus included Internal Controls, Risk Management, Project Assurance, SSAE 16 audits and Attestations. His other significant partner responsibilities were in the areas of talent acquisition and development, business development, quality control and operational leadership of a $25 million RA practice comprised of over 100 individuals. Matt’s consistently increasing passion for developing and mentoring young professionals in recent years resulted in his retirement from PwC and founding The Edge.
His efforts in the areas of talent acquisition and development include leading local recruiting efforts for the RA group, including both campus and experienced hiring. Over 300 interns, campus hires and experienced hires were brought into the group under his direct leadership. He also acted as RA’s East Regional Campus Recruiting Lead Partner for five years, coaching over 75 other PwC professionals across 10 offices in the critical aspects of talent evaluation, recruitment and retention. As a manager and partner, Matt was also responsible for leadership development, goal setting, portfolio management and compliance for clients ranging from complex public multi-national corporations to small privately owned companies to non-profits. During his tenure, he provided formal and informal mentoring and coaching to hundreds of staff and management team members and worked to develop, launch and maintain several other key development initiatives, such as the NASA and STARS programs for younger professionals.
In 2001, Matt was selected as the Firm-Wide Relationship Partner (FRP) responsible for leading PwC’s relationship with the University of Delaware (UD), where he interacted with faculty, administration and hundreds of students on a annual basis, spending 150-200 hours annually from 2001 to 2011. Through ten years in this role he hired an estimated 250 new associates and interns from the UD and was consistently rated a top performer in the FRP role each year by PwC’s leadership. Matt was also frequently sought out for presentations, panel discussions, one-on-ones, sell discussions and other recruiting events at various universities.
Over his career, Matt has developed and delivered courses to a wide variety of audiences, such as NACACS, ISACA, client management teams, PwC teams and university faculty and students. Courses taught covered multiple business and risk management topics as well as personal brand development, career management, resume creation and interviewing skills.
Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance and Management Information Systems from the University of Delaware (UD). He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and currently sits on the UD Lerner College Alumni Advisory Board and the Accounting and MIS Department Advisory Board. For the past eight years he also has sat on the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia Academies, a non-profit organization assisting Philadelphia city high school students in preparing for careers in Business and IT. Students and other audiences will enjoy his candor, passion and often humorous approach to enlightening professionals on how to sharpen their potential for success.
Matt lives in Audubon, PA with his wife of 20 years, Marcie, and his two boys Garrett and Carter.
